A chart-topping singer is a legend who’s had a career any singer would envy, though lately their popularity is starting to diminish. Fans still line-up to get their autograph, but their empire isn’t like it used to be. Their record label thinks a newer artist, is just what the singer needs. And scheming lovers can’t wait to steal the artist’s spotlight. But sharing a stage with one another is the last thing they want to do, which sets up a power struggle for popularity. Could the undiscovered songwriting talent of one of the artists be the key to helping the artist resurrect their career? Oh I’m sorry, did you think I was talking about Empire? No. This is the storyline about a show called Nashville. Nashville is a show that started in 2012, about the Country music industry. You see Country music fans didn’t cause a big uproar on how Nashville is depicting their kind wrong. Nor did they say that Nashville keeps the congregation out of church and other nonsense. They understand that Nashville is nothing more than an once a week for an hour, entertainment. So why can’t the concept be accepted for Empire?

So after the Empire’s season finale, I saw a few of you YouTube scholars connect Black on Black crime with Empire. Umm Empire premiered on January 8th, 2015. 2015!!! Y’all have to try harder than that. My favorite is ‘OMG Empire is so stereotyping Black people.’ Yep. Stereotyping us as successful and rich entrepreneurs who have serious family issues. And let me not start on how this show plays on a lot you folks’ homophobia (OMG there’s gay on my TV). Really, cut the crap. Empire is like every other soap opera (stories for my country kin) on TV, just with you know, Black people. So what is the real problem? Honestly, you guys begged for more Black shows and you got it. Are you not entertained? Is this not why you are here?

Empire is a show that comes on once a week for an hour. It’s there to entertain you. It’s not there to solve social issues or locate your personal Jesus. It’s a show. It’s entertainment. A lot of you only dislike Empire because everyone else does. We call you folks ‘Dudley Try Hard.’ Everybody likes something and you hate it. Sucks to be you. Empire is a dope show. Great to see Black faces on prime-time TV. Superior acting with a great concept is why fans flock to Empire. So stop with the ‘Empire is destroying our community’ act because it’s dumb. Mainly because you guys love to blame everyone but yourselves. But that’s a different topic for a different day. So do me a favor and next time you think of hopping on social media with your Fruity Pebbles statistics, don’t. You’ll just end up looking like Uncle Vernon. –Pooh Bailey
