I have been a fan of Pharrell Williams and his work since The Neptunes came along back in the 90’s. When N.E.R.D put out In Search Of, I became an even bigger fan. But the moment that won me over completely was when Pharrell released In My Mind back in 2006. I didn’t know you could love music so much.  I can’t say that I love his latest release G I R L as much as his debut solo LP but he did not disappoint.

The album is full of upbeat and festive production. I love Pharrell’s songwriting as always and he put together some nice features. “Brand New” with Justin Timberlake and “Know Who You Are” with Alicia Keys are my two favorite collaborations off of the sophomore offering. “Come Get It Bae” with Miley Cyrus reminds me of “Blurred Lines” but I can’t help but to jam along. My absolute favorite song on the album though is “Happy (Despicable Me 2)” of course. At a point when there was a dark cloud over my life, this song brought some much needed sunshine in. I’ve decided to stand in that sunlight forever. Which is why I open my radio show with the single every Tuesday. And for your own dose of cheer, you can check out the video below. But I digress … if you are a fan of Pharrell, you will be a fan of G I R L. Like my homie Rich P said “it does take you back.” It’s a strong free spirited album that can be played from start to finish without skipping a track. In closing,  I don’t buy albums very often but when I do they’re by Pharrell or N.E.R.D. Catch my live tribute to the eccentric music veteran this Tuesday (3/4) at 8pm on the Lexi Trenee Show. -Lexi Trenee
