**Note: MKE Center Stage is a new segment to the site that will place a bit of spotlight on new releases and such from the bevy of talent in the 414. There are so many individuals involved in the local entertainment scene that it is impossible to keep up with everyone, let alone craft separate posts for all of their endeavors. But that doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be some type of acknowledgment. So every once in a while we’re going to peruse our sources and let readers know what’s popping in the Mil-Town.

Montrey Slayton – “Cake” (Video)

414 crooner Montrey Slayton dropped visuals for his hit song “Cake” towards the end of 2014. The video is shot by 40Mil and stars local model/actress Natasha Nafrini. It’s a polished and tastefully done compliment to the anthem that deals with conflicts of the heart. It also has an ending that may just take the viewer by surprise. Though it’s been out for a while, it’s certainly a must see.

Lexi Trenee F/ Rich P. & B~Free – “Holiday”

Known for her radio show, activism, and work in artist management/consultation, Lexi Trenee took everybody by surprise when she announced her decision to step into the music realm. She released her debut single this past December. It’s entitled “Holiday” and sees her teaming up with the homie Rich P. and the ever so fabulous B~Free. The song is an adequate offering with a great sentiment behind it. There is a video in the works as well but for now readers can check out the tune above.

This coming weekend, Milwaukee music scene persona and local community activist Lexi Trenee is bringing two very exciting events to the 414. First up is Independency 101. It takes place on the 25th (Saturday) from 6pm to 8pm. It’s a workshop that will feature special guest speaker Lorenzo D. Heard (Premier Entertainment Group) dropping some music business knowledge on local artists in hopes to help give them some gems that they can apply to their careers. Additionally, she has called on a few local movers and shakers to share what they can as well. The Illixer‘s own MinM, DJ Deftone, DJ Trill Will, and community activist Andre Lee Ellis will all be on hand to add to the mix. It’s a free event and is taking place at the WestCare Harambee Center. The address for the venue can be found in the above flyer along with any other pertinent information.  It should be a fun evening of learning, networking, and connecting.

G I R L (iTunes)

I have been a fan of Pharrell Williams and his work since The Neptunes came along back in the 90’s. When N.E.R.D put out In Search Of, I became an even bigger fan. But the moment that won me over completely was when Pharrell released In My Mind back in 2006. I didn’t know you could love music so much.  I can’t say that I love his latest release G I R L as much as his debut solo LP but he did not disappoint.
