This coming weekend, Milwaukee music scene persona and local community activist Lexi Trenee is bringing two very exciting events to the 414. First up is Independency 101. It takes place on the 25th (Saturday) from 6pm to 8pm. It’s a workshop that will feature special guest speaker Lorenzo D. Heard (Premier Entertainment Group) dropping some music business knowledge on local artists in hopes to help give them some gems that they can apply to their careers. Additionally, she has called on a few local movers and shakers to share what they can as well. The Illixer‘s own MinM, DJ Deftone, DJ Trill Will, and community activist Andre Lee Ellis will all be on hand to add to the mix. It’s a free event and is taking place at the WestCare Harambee Center. The address for the venue can be found in the above flyer along with any other pertinent information.  It should be a fun evening of learning, networking, and connecting.

The second event that is taking place this weekend is The Best Of MKE Showcase. It will occur on the 26th (Sunday) from 7pm to 10pm. A handful of previously selected artists will be hitting the stage to convince the aforementioned Lorenzo D. Heard that they are deserving of a distribution deal. The affair is being held at Best Place and will be hosted by model/actress Natasha Nafrini. DJ Deftone will be supplying the tunes and co-hosting. The performers vying for the big opportunity are: Pharaoh Mac, B~Free, C-Mills, Trunk Bussa, Legacy Musik, Bizal McLoud, and Kia Rap Princess. The top performer of the night will also win a special feature/paid service from the site as well as get the chance to appear on Tone Def Radio. That’s quite the collective of talent and they have all been rehearsing and going out of their way to prepare to ensure that they give a memorable performance on Sunday night. Lorenzo will definitely have his work cut out for him. So come out and root on your favorite artist. Details can be found in the above flyer. There is also a Facebook Page for updates and such which can be found here.

**My Two Cents: I’m going to be stupid busy this weekend because of these events but I am definitely looking forward to both. Have to give a shout out to Lexi Trenee for allowing me to be involved and for bringing such rewarding opportunities to the city. Much love to everybody else involved with these affairs too. It’s great to see everyone coming together for the betterment of the music scene. -MinM
