“Mannerisms” (listen/download)

A little over a year has passed since the site last heard anything from Christ B (Cold Medina) of Higher Education Records. So it was a pleasant surprise to receive a new submission from the well-bred emcee. He is currently preparing for an upcoming project he has in the works titled, Cantaloupe & Rum. Joining him on the new offering is budding producer Original Vision. The pair have dubbed themselves Cold Vision and here is how their new venture is being described: Cold Vision is the convergence of emcee/deadbeat Cold Medina and young super producer Original Vision. Their full length project Cantaloupe & Rum is a sonically lush affair, chronicling the journey of two displaced Latinos attempting  to balance pleasure and pain, while navigating the heartlands of America. Diverse in both sound and subject matter, the project is sure to engage listeners with dynamic lyricism and spacey, boom-bap inspired production. – Press Release / The fellas officially released the first single/video off of their collaborative effort called “Mannerisms” in the middle of last month.

The track itself is set to a high caliber production. It contains: a fresh foundation, down to earth background elements, a funky rhythm, and a carefree vibe. There is no hook as the song is on the shorter end, rounding out at just shy of two minutes. The unwavering verse is of a sterling quality. Cold Medina presents a bountiful flow, highbrow wordplay, and intricate rhymes. He does an excellent job of showing off his expert artistic way on the mic. Overall, “Mannerisms” is an alluring record.

The video was directed by Aaron Granat. The flick begins ordinarily enough with Cold Medina at home washing dishes. Suddenly a car pulls up, two masked individuals hop out, and Medina is kidnapped. He is tossed in the car which holds more masked assailants and is driven to an obscure location. He is pulled out of the vehicle and then the camera loses sight of the emcee. The final scenes of the video show the masked men creepily standing around and smoking. As a whole, this was a peculiar watch.

**My Two Cents: I’m feeling both this song and the video. Original Vision slayed on the boards and Cold Medina balanced it out well with the rhymes. The two make for a dope team. The video was cool too. It will hold people’s interest for sure. I hope they do a follow up. I want to see how things play out (lbvs). Cantaloupe & Rum is due for release this Fall on Higher Education Records. So be sure to keep up with the provided links and stay tuned in to the site as well. -MinM
