“Heaven Sent” (listen/download)

Rapper Watley hit the net with a brand new single a few weeks ago. It’s called “Heaven Sent” and was produced by Tantu Beats. The production here is down to earth. It includes a gradual pace, subtle musical components, and an easy going vibe. There is no actual hook used on this record. Instead, there are breaks in the song that feature a sample of an old school R&B hit titled “Heaven Must Have Sent You” by The Elgins. The sample is worked into the song perfectly and is one of the highlights of the tune. The verses are quality. Watley exhibits a solemn flow, unique wordplay, and abstract rhymes. He expresses some offbeat thoughts that create interesting images for the listener to absorb. He spits lines like: “I work my mind to the bone to see a golden gate severed. To see an angel walk on land means much more to a man than blindly serving this land. (…) His entire time before a jury he received a glance of what life’s really about. Time he opened up his gland.” Solid yet unorthodox bars right there. Overall, this track is on point. Definitely offers something different.

**My Two Cents: This was a favorable song. I absolutely love the way the sample was used. And the original portions were pretty satisfying too. Watley always brings an eccentric flair to the site. See what else he’s up to besides making new music by visiting him on Twitter. -MinM
