As promised, That’s My DJ is back in business. The relaunching begins with none other than Chicago turntable connoisseur DJ B-Famous. With over two decades in the game and an extensive list of accomplishments under his belt, he is the epitome of an expert veteran in the craft. Continue reading after the break to become better acquainted with the windy city icon.

Background Info: B-Famous started deejaying in 1988 in Pasadena, California under the name Handz Solo. He went on to spin in various clubs in Hollywood and San Francisco in the 90’s such as Club Deco and Nikki’s BBQ. Additionally, he became involved in the competitive aspect of the deejaying world. He took part in the DMC World DJ Championships as well as ITF. In 2000, he decided to take a break from the art form. Later on down the line, he relocated to the Chi and reinvented himself. The reinvention resulted in the shedding of his former moniker which is what lead to the current B-Famous brand. His time away did nothing to hinder his talents. He has seen a steady flow of work in the Chi-Town, participated in the Smirnoff Master Of The Mix Audition for two seasons, and as previously mentioned was crowned the Milwaukee LNC DJ Battle Champion. Plus, he has worked with various artists like: Rockz Solid, Ang 13, Rec Center, Reality, and White Jesus, just to name a few. If all of that wasn’t enough, he has two albums under his belt too. One is coined I’ll Make You Famous and the other was recently covered on the site, iBFAMOUS4.4v:NASmatic. So his history in the business is nothing to take lightly.

Mini Q&A:

The Illixer: Top three favorite deejays of all time?

DJ B-Famous: DJ Cash Money, DJ Miz, DJ Scratch

TI: Favorite song or type of music to play?

DJ B-Famous: I got too many favorite songs cause I’m a Hip-Hop junkie. Favorite type of music to play: Hip-Hop, B-Boy Breaks, Funk & Soul

TI: Favorite place to spin at and why?

DJ B-Famous: Park jams outside; particularly the vibe of being outdoors and the energy of the people that don’t have to be boozed up to have a good time.

TI: One trait that is a must have for every real DJ?

DJ B-Famous: Commitment!

TI: If you could change one thing about the art of deejaying today it would be?

DJ B-Famous: I wouldn’t change anything cause everything evolves. But to any new DJ starting out don’t let technology do the work for you. Learn the art and practice your skills. Put in the work to be better. Don’t just be a sync or laptop DJ. Even on controllers you can learn the art. You gotta respect the culture, not be a culture vulture for a bar tab and $50.

He was a very down to earth guy and he definitely earned his victory that night. I have much respect for his longevity in the game. His resume is very impressive. And of course I appreciate him helping us revamp That’s My DJ. To keep up with B-Famous beyond this segment be sure to visit the above links provided in the post. -MinM
