In light of his recent 21st birthday, young N-Crowd Entertainment emcee Takticz dropped us another gem in the form of “Eyes Closed.” The braggadocios nature of the track is subtle but lets one of Sacramento’s finest tell the listeners how he really feels about his skills behind the mic.
As usual, the production is handled by N-Crowd’s in-house sound sorcerer himself N8 The Gr8. He hones in more on the trippy sound which is becoming somewhat of his signature, especially when collaborating with Takticz. The drum loop sounds classic and very East Coast with a deep kick and thin snare. There is a drowsy synth melody in the background, paired with a warped Sci-Fi padding that creates a smooth yet eerie vibe. A light yet consistent bass line make this beat another notch in N8’s belt.
While the beat does not scream “s–t talking track” (as me and my friends have coined records in which rappers talk about how good we are, hahaha), Takticz flips it perfectly. Sticking with the easy going aura of the song, he speaks about not only how good of a wordsmith he is, but how easily he can create: “I can do this shit with no hands. I can do this shit with my eyes closed.” His swagged out flow fits nicely and he keeps the bars coming with lines like: “I’m Sacramento repping like a Doug Christie uppercut. Kings no hockey puck. West Coast, C-A. Fiend no coffee cup. N-crowd mafia.” The way he layers those bars says there is some truth to his declaration in this track.
**Final Thoughts: Overall, it was another dope offering from the homie Takticz. The track has a good beat, good lyrics, and it was a cool birthday surprise from Yung Brehh. While I don’t think it’s as creative or hypnotizing as some of his other recent releases, it’s still a solid piece. -Real McCoy
