Yung Oki F/ Ray Nitti – “On You” [Dark|Horse Remix] (listen/download)

Reinvented producer/DJ Dark|Horse is slowly but surely growing into his own comfort level within his new venture behind the tables. As he has always been an avid supporter of the site as well as the Milwaukee music scene, figured it would be nice to allow him to share a bit regarding his latest experience through participating in That’s My DJ. Find out just how well he’s getting acclimated to the DJ world after the break.

Background Info: I’m a rookie but I’ve been around music my whole life. The last couple of years has been full of music production and DJ’ing. My resume includes: my Sound Cloud, some fun parties, and my work with Milwaukee based artist Emmitt James.

Other Ventures: I produce my own tracks and I produce Hip-Hop music.

Mini Q&A:

The Illixer: Top three favorite deejays of all time?

Dark|Horse: Difficult question, next (lol).  Jazzy Jeff, DJ Premier, Kid Kapri but I’d say the most influential to me have been the artist types like: Daft Punk, Diplo, and Pretty Lights.

TI: Favorite song or type of music to play?

Dark|Horse: EDM, Hip-Hop, and R&B

TI: Favorite place to spin at and why?

Dark|Horse: The EDM community here is young and I’m a college student so my buddies and I love blowing up house parties with people who want to hear new music.

TI: One trait that is a must have for every real DJ?

Dark|Horse: Flexibility, music changes & evolving doesn’t make you a fad artist.

TI: If you could change one thing about the art of deejaying today it would be?

Dark|Horse: The east coast vs. west coast mentality of turntable vs. controller deejays. I love music, I love making music, and I love making people move their asses. All the other stuff is subjective.

**My Two Cents: I thought it was an interesting move when I found out that Dark|Horse had transitioned into deejaying. But after hearing a couple of his mixes and chopping it up with him about the undertaking, I also believe it’s a good look as well. He’s got an excellent spirit for the craft. Plus, it seems the merging of the EDM and Hip-Hop worlds is really starting to take off here in the 414. So it’s awesome that he’s already in the midst of it all. Be sure to be on the lookout for Dark|Horse rocking a house party near you. -MinM
