“Might Delete Later Freestyle” (J. Cole Remix) (Stream Here)
The spirit of diss tracks and trash talking is in the Hip-Hop air and the fans couldn’t be happier. Motivated by his mainstream peers, indie artist Rue The Poet decided to join the chat so to speak. He came out of the cut and dropped a number entitled “Might Delete Later Freestyle” (J. Cole Remix). Keep reading to see how he stacks up in this current wave of competitive rappers.
The production here is where the J. Cole nod comes in. The subdued infrastructure, dramatic musical elements, slight tempo, and haunting vibe are a brilliant fit for the Mid-West talent. No hook is present. The arrangement is such where a hook is not missed though. The extended verse is of a pristine quality. Rue The Poet administers a disciplined flow, original wordplay, and fresh rhymes. He puts forth a strong flex for his first release of 2024. A sampling of which includes: “I ain’t scared of death at all. B—h I already died. Last four years I been in ghost mode. So I could barely care what you other rappers vote for. F–k the politics. I’m the best n—a doing it. Recipe is f–ked up cause you ain’t got no Rue/roux in it.” Those bars right there make for a hard hitting ending. All in all, this is a noteworthy freestyle.
**My Two Cents: Welcome to the party Rue! I was excited to get this in my inbox as it involves two of my faves in the game. Rue did not disappoint. He did the J. Cole beat justice. I love all of the multiple meanings sprinkled throughout. And it sounds like he actually had some fun with this. Rue has never backed down from a good mic fight though (lol). I am anxious to hear what else he cooks up this year. I know recently he’s spent time fine tuning his craft under industry mentorship and it seems to have paid off. Keep those eyes & ears peeled. -MinM
