Most cover songs come off as someone having a sober night at Karaoke. Meaning it was cute but forgettable. However, that is not the case here. Taylor Mallory, just like only a hand full of people on YouTube, actually did a better job covering a song than the original artist. The song that he recently chose to cover was “Jungle” by Drake off his unexpected hit project If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late.
Taylor did an excellent job of harmonizing and staying in tune. Honestly, I liked the song before but Drake’s voice annoyed me because it’s not meant for it. Taylor’s tone, however, is perfect for this type of track. The best part was that Taylor’s version was acoustic, which brought the track out even more. Taylor Mallory has a great voice and I can’t wait to see what he covers next. But the biggest challenge will be the future consistency of his original tracks. Will his momentum continue to transfer over to him being a quality R&B artist or will he fall victim to the great cover artist curse? We will definitely keep it locked to find out. -Pooh Bailey
