“My Main” (iTunes)

Mila J has hit her fans with another single/video combo off of her forthcoming project M.I.L.A (Made In Los Angeles). It’s dubbed “My Main” and once again finds her collaborating alongside Ty Dolla $ign. The song is produced by DJ Mustard and is being held as the new best friend anthem. Find out why after the break.

The production here is premium. The thriving bass, snazzy background details, upbeat rhythm, and fly club infused vibe make for a seriously magnetic combination. The hook is the business too. The vocals are refined and the lyrics are crazy memorable. The verses are entertaining. Mila J serves the listener with distinct melodies and endearing lyrics. She breaks down the qualities that she feels a true friend possesses with a ton of flavor. A sampling of lines includes: “One of the baddest chicks in this club. One of the only girls that I love. Been down with her since day one. Can’t nobody break this up. We never fight over them boys. We be playing with these n—as like toys. Vacay with me in Miami. Front row with me at the Grammys.” Friendships just don’t get any better or tighter than what’s depicted in those words right there. All in all, this is a very delightful track.

The video was directed by Blue Gregory. It opens with Mila J and a wide assortment of beauties getting ready in a dressing room. Once they are all set to go, they make their way from the back to a bar named Club Main which is revealed to have a Coyote Ugly type of set up. Ty Dolla $ign is the anticipated VIP guest for the evening. Mila J gets the patrons fired up and the show begins. From there, the remainder of the flick centers around she and the ladies putting on a sexy dance driven performance. In the midst of their routine, Ty Dolla is shown laid back in the cut while smoking on a little something. He delivers his part in a low key fashion, occasionally joined on the couch by Mila. The vision concludes with a glimpse of Mila J sashaying across the top of the bar away from the camera. Overall, this was an optimal effort.

**My Two Cents: I really favor this song and enjoyed the video. DJ Mustard slayed the production and the content is on point. Mila J crafted a cute number for besties to jam out to together and Ty Dolla $ign made a creative contribution. The video is a great modern day spin on a beloved older film. It’s catching some flack for being too sexy and not quite in line with the theme of the record but I see nothing wrong with it. I was expecting a different storyline too at first but I applaud Mila for thinking outside of the box. M.I.L.A (Made In Los Angeles) is slated for release on the 14th of this month and I can’t wait. It is being described as a 90’s style collective with a lot of relationship themed tracks. Sounds like the makings of  a good listen. -MinM
