L-Dro is an artist hailing from East Akron, Ohio. He took to both music and the streets at an early age. Using what he learned in the streets as a catalyst for his art, he was eventually signed to a deal in 2004. Additionally, he has worked with his fair share of industry talents and had experiences that most artists would kill for. The Illixer got the chance to pick his brain in the midst of his campaign for his upcoming mixtape, In Us We Trust. See what we uncovered about the rising talent after the jump.

The Illixer: How did you come to be a part of the Hip-Hop world?

L-Dro: Growing up listening to rappers like 2 Pac, Biggie Smalls, Nas, Jay-Z, Scarface, and Big L inspired me to want to make Rap music at a young age.

TI: Explain how you obtained your stage name.

L-Dro: The L is for Legendary which is what I aspire to become. Dro came from my personal habits (lol).

TI: Do you feel like the music scene in Akron, Ohio is accommodating towards up-and-coming artists there?

L-Dro: I think Akron Hip-Hop is on a rise because of the talent and hunger that artists in the city have. Plus the national attention our city has been gaining recently.

TI: How did you end up signing with Major Hustle Entertainment?

L-Dro: Met my CEO De when I was a teen through a mutual friend. He heard me and wanted to sign me on the spot.

TI: You’ve done the Big Heff Industry Tour, participated in the BET Awards Weekend, worked with industry level producers, etc. What would you say has been one of the most memorable moments of your career thus far and why?

L-Dro: My BET Awards experiences the past two summers opened my eyes to a lot. The more I see the more I want.

TI: Your bio states that you are the essence of pure Hip-Hop. What elements define real genuine Hip-Hop in your eyes?

L-Dro: Genuine Hip-Hop is a combination of putting every aspect of life out into song. From partying, to sad times, to love, etc. I’m capable of doing it all.

TI: What all went into creating your latest project with DJ Drama, In Us We Trust?

L-Dro: Blood, sweat, tears, hard work, and dedication. This is my best work.

TI: Why did you choose “Getting To The Money” as the first street single from the mixtape?

L-Dro: It’s easily relatable and it’s a dope record. Hot beat, catchy hook, lyrics on point. It’s a hot record.

TI: What is going to make In Us We Trust stand out from your other bodies of work?

L-Dro: I’m constantly growing as a person and as an artist so the music is growing with me. I’m at a good place in life so the music is a reflection of that. Every project I release will show growth and development.

TI: Aside from the tape, what other ventures do you have on the horizon?

L-Dro: I’m hoping to audition for a couple movie roles in the near future. I’m working with some of the dopest producers in Hip-Hop on my future projects. I have music with The Olympicks, Statik Selektah, K.E. On The Track, J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, Ski Beatz, and Nottz among others. So I’m just working!

**My Two Cents: This was a very chill and low-key interview. L-Dro has an extremely personable way about him and that’s a good look. His music is pretty decent too. I am digging “Getting To The Money” for sure. It was a great choice for an initial leak. He has accomplished quite a bit for an indie artist thus far and I have no doubts that he will continue making big moves long into the future. Those interested can keep up with the Ohio native by following him on Twitter (see above). -MinM
