Joshua Scarver (#DWYD) is known on the site for his work within the indie music scene. However, he also has a lot of stand alone ventures outside of music as well. One of said ventures is his annual toy & book drive with Children’s Hospital and The Milwaukee Child Advocacy Center that takes place around Christmas time. This past holiday season marked the fifth run of the effort. It seems that as the drive has grown over the years, so has the number of sponsors and donations. Which is quite impressive. The Illixer decided to reach out to Joshua to learn a little bit more about the cause and his passion for philanthropy. Take a peek at the brief yet informative Q&A after the break.

Last month, the city of Milwaukee came together for a night of Hip-Hop and charity in the name of one of our very own. 414 youth, Shariff was granted a wish from the infamous Make-A-Wish Foundation. Shariff is a part of the Blaqlizt Music Entertainment brand and has assisted with a couple of the site’s past events as well as the events of a few different local artists. He is a “wish kid” due to the fact that he is living with Takayasu disease. Information on the disease can be found here. He didn’t choose to meet a celebrity or to go on some elaborate vacation. Instead, he wanted to highlight the talent of the city’s younger generation and give back to a few of the organizations who support them.

‘Tis the season of giving as Christmas is right around the corner. Keeping in that holiday spirit, Milwaukee’s own Joshua Scarver (#DWYD) is in the midst of his fourth annual toy & book drive in conjunction with Children’s Hospital and The Child Protection Center. Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin is the region’s only independent health care system dedicated solely to the health and well-being of children and is recognized as one of the leading pediatric health care centers in the United States. The Child Protection Center is a division of Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. It is a safe place where children can go to talk about the abuse and get medical care and counseling. In addition they provide child abuse assessments, referrals, health checks and more. Further information on these two organizations can be found here.

Veteran artists Jadakiss and Styles P have been making a major buzz this week. Surprisingly, it has nothing to do with new music or projects. Instead, the duo have been receiving notice for their efforts to improve the health conditions of those in low income neighborhoods.
