Alternative rapper Kid Cudi is set to drop a brand new album this Friday (9/30) called Entergalactic. The project makes for the eight studio offering of the rapper’s long standing career. However, it also makes for a first for the eclectic emcee. The LP is dropping along with the debut of an animated Netflix series of the same name.
The series is meant to serve as a visual companion of sorts to the collective. The series is based around the story of an artist on the come-up who unexpectedly falls in love with his new neighbor. Set in New York City, the cartoon special is said to intertwine the themes of art, fashion, Hip-Hop, and love. The special is co-produced by Kenya Barris (Black-ish) and is directed by Fletcher Moules. Kid Cudi himself takes on the lead role and there will be guest appearances from other notable talents such as: Ty Dolla $ign, Jaden Smith, Teyana Taylor, and more. Kid Cudi states that the inspiration for the story-line is part personal experience and part how he hopes his life will turnout someday. Cudi says he’s been sitting on this animation idea for some time now. He was trying to ensure that he came up with something unique as well as something that would be sure to connect with the people. Seems like he might have hit his mark. Check out the trailer for the upcoming special below.
**My Two Cents: This combines a few of my all time favorite things: cartoons, music, and adventurous projects by people of color. I love it! Haven’t been too tapped in with Kid Cudi over the years but I will for sure be checking out the series. I think this is a super dope idea and I wish Cudi all of the success in the world.
