Kendrick Is Coming To Milwaukee (Summerfest)

To Pimp A Butterfly (iTunes)

With probably the best Rap album of the year, To Pimp a Butterfly, Kendrick Lamar decided to bless us with a video for “King Kunta” “King Kunta” is a throwback to old 80/90’s West Coast videos. 6-4s, hydraulics, Compton Swap Meet, and rump shakers is what gives this video a classic feel.  Kendrick takes us on a ride through his favorite spots in Compton. With a G-Funk bassline, this song and video makes us yearn for the Death Row era circa The Chronic.

I already couldn’t wait to play this song real loud in the car on a beautiful Spring day. But now I really can’t wait. A video’s job is to sell you on the song. And that is what director X and Kendrick did. There is nothing new under the sun, but revamping it, and making it your own does wonders. Kendrick does this so effortlessly. He gives us music we’ve heard before but he adds his own spin on it and wins. Also, I suggest that if you need to get in the mood to barbeque, watch this video and fire up that grill. All in all, this is a great ‘look at the city I rep’ video with a dope braggadocios song. Like most, I’m on the edge of my seat to see what Kendrick will do next. –Pooh Bailey
