Damir Balo – “Is What It Is”

If he does nothing else, Milwaukee artist Damir Balo ensures that he stays pushing fresh tunes from his catalog on a regular basis. One of his latest campaigns is for a song called “Is What It Is.” The single actually appears on his most recent project, Chasing Forever 5.

The production here is complimentary. It is made up of: a compact base, peculiar secondary elements, a relaxing tempo, and a nonchalant vibe. The hook is fair. The delivery is crisp and the lyrics are of a transparent nature. They get the point across clearly but it would’ve been nice to hear just a little more creativity within the wordage. The verses are moderate. Damir Balo supplies a tamed flow, respectable wordplay, and sufficient rhymes. He demonstrates the concept behind the phrase in the title of the track pretty accurately. A sprinkling of standout lines include: “You ain’t gotta fight that s–t. You ain’t gotta hide that s–t. You ain’t gotta climb that cliff. You ain’t gotta try that hard. You ain’t gotta fly that far. (…) F–k who you with cause it is what it is. F–k who you with cause it is what it is.” Those are some pretty candid opening bars right there. As a whole, this is a satisfactory offering.
