Culture II (iTunes)

A 24-track Migos album is a rite of passage for a Hip-Hop lover. It’s like a triathlon for a runner. It’s a long, strenuous process that most people wouldn’t subject themselves to in one go, but those who do, honey, they are strong.

I’ve always had a soft spot in my heart for the three blind mice of rap, otherwise known as the Migos. They exploded onto the scene back in the early 2010s with their harmonious melodies and eccentric, ad-lid drenched flows. It was different and many people were drawn to their fresh perspective, myself included.

Over half a decade later, Migos is one of the biggest groups on the planet. They now get nominated for Grammys, create culturally significant singles (most notably, “Bad and Boujee“), and make incredible brand deals like this hilarious Apple’s Animoji collab that you’ve probably already seen on your Instagram feed.

Veteran rapper Eminem has had an interesting run over the past couple of months or so. He won acclaim with his appearance on the 2017 BET Hip-Hop Awards Cypher as he took shots at President Trump and stood up for injustice. He followed up his return to the limelight with the release of his ninth studio LP, Revival. Unlike his freestyle, the people were not feeling his album at all. It got a lukewarm reception at best and it seems as if the people would’ve preferred that the Slim Shady rapper had stayed in the shadows. Fast forward to a couple of days ago and it seems that the lack of love for the project may have been just the fuel that Mr. Mathers needed to get back on top.

South-side Chicago rapper Chi City (Empire) comes to the site’s attention via one of our favorite PR companies. He’s been doing his thing for quite some time now and his hard work is starting to pay off. He’s written tracks for fellow artists like Ty Dolla Sign, collaborated with peeps like Cory Gunz, and toured with names such as Mickey Factz. Additionally, he has achieved accolades with Coast To Coast, BET, and This Is 50. He has some impressive ghost writing credits under his belt as well. At the moment, the rising rapper is pushing two releases. One is a personal 11 track EP coined 87. It is currently available on iTunes. The other is a joint track with the one and only 2 Chainz called “Members Only.” Get more on the stand alone single after the break.
