Everyone is being beat over the head with political madness as the 2016 Presidential Election is just right around the corner. However, the music world is currently in a voting season of it’s own. The Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame unveiled their latest class of nominees about a week ago to date.

There are 19 artists up for the prestigious honor but only five slots available. Among the members of the new class are: Tupac Shakur (RIP), Janet Jackson (Mama Jackson – if you nasty), and Chaka Khan. This is Pac’s first year ever being nominated to get voted into the Hall Of Fame. To be eligible for nomination, artists must have released a single or album 25 years prior to the year of nomination. This class counts for 2017, so everyone on the ballot had to have material out no later than 1991. Others up for induction include names such as: Depeche Mode, Jane’s Addiction, Journey, and Pearl Jam just to name a few. So the competition is pretty fierce.

If fans want to try to help their fave make it in, they can cast one vote a day from now until December 5th via the Rock Hall website. A worldwide collection of artists, historians, and other music industry insiders will be casting their votes as well. The top five artists who receive the most fan votes will be placed on “fans’ ballot” to be tallied along with the votes from the rest of the voting body. This marks the fifth year in a row that the fans have been given a voice in the process. The official inductees will be announced in late December. The induction ceremony will take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn next April and be broadcast on HBO. Hip-Hop scored a win with last year’s class when N.W.A was selected for induction.

**My Two Cents: I love the fact that we have three artists within the Hip-Hop and R&B genres with a chance to be inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. It should be no secret that I am personally pulling for Tupac (lol). But I would be thrilled to see any of the three make it. We definitely need as many wins as possible in the Black community. So fingers crossed that at least one of our people get the honor. Make sure you do your part by hitting up that website to cast your vote. -MinM
