The State Of Local Hip-Hop (Editorial)

As the years move on and we enter fully into the world of social media, many basic human elements seem to be being deleted from our society. Honor, professionalism, and respect have now gone the way of Betamax and VHS tapes. Fewer and fewer people have actually been able to retain these vanishing traits as we enter this modern society. Those that lack these qualities that were once valued higher than money are those you see leaving events after they perform, showing up late, and even going so far as to storm off stage in the middle of their sets. Unfortunately these occur on a nightly basis in many cities across the country. And nobody is willing to address them out of fear that these ratchet ass people will slander and taint the name of the few good people left in this industry with a true love for art that has been blended in with a business mindset.

Recently a few rotten apples have been plaguing the local music scenes across the country by reinforcing this negative behavior off the stage in their day to day lives. Posting and spreading a message of ratchetness underneath the guise of free speech and opinions simply for the joy of hate. The joy of hate. Think about that small, powerful sentence for a second. Let those words enter your soul and realize what that truly means. Have consideration for the people that take the time to construct and promote the events that your perform at and treat them with the respect they deserve. Your non-trademarked, no copyright having music does not give you the right to act like a diva and walk off stage during your performance or show up three hours late. Nor does creating beats for has beens and never will bes give you the right to judge someone’s past and mistake friendly conversation for flirting. These ignorant and childish mannerisms are what is wrong with the world of Hip-Hop. This genre was originally founded as a way to enlighten and raise up against the struggle, not add to it. If this editorial piece upsets you or angers you then maybe you need to take that shoe, lace that bitch up nice and tight and wear it until you can find the way to fix what the fuck is wrong with yourself. Nobody is perfect and we at The Illixer simply want you to look deep inside yourself and fix what needs to be fixed and treat others the way you want to  be treated with: honor, respect, and professionalism. ~Biggz

Ask true people and you got true answers.“The Universal Zulu Nation stands for knowledge, wisdom, understanding, freedom, justice, equality, peace, unity, love, respect, work, fun, overcoming the negative, economics, mathematics, science, life, truth facts, faith, and the oneness of God.”
