That’s My DJ: DJ Quickmixx

So the site’s appreciation for deejays was enhanced last Summer during the attendance of a DJ battle that took place here at a local venue formally known as LNC. The battle was hosted by RockzSolid and it included a diverse collective of talent. Amongst said group was DJ Quickmixx. His custom made Incredible Hulk t-shirt and rapid hands made a lasting impression. He’s kept in contact ever since and thus it seemed fitting to give him his moment to be represented on That’s My DJ. Background Info: DJ Quickmixx has been rocking the turntables for over 20 years. He describes his style as a combination of old school skills set to new school technology. Throughout the course of his career he has: won three battles for Wisconsin, mixed/produced countless mixtapes, been a member of several crews (House Nation, WhiteHouse, Strictly Music, Mixxmobb, etc.), and owned his own record shop. So he’s made some good use of his time. He works all types of festivities from concerts to birthday parties and is well traveled.

DJ Quickmixx: DJ Craze, MixMaster Mike, & Q-Bert.

 TI: Favorite song or type of music to play?

DJ Quickmixx: I love spinning several genres. Hip-Hop, R&B, and House are my favorites to spin.

 TI: Favorite place to spin at and why?

DJ Quickmixx: I don’t have a favorite venue. As long as everyone’s vibing off me & having a good time, I feed off that energy. But I have opened up for several big acts over the years in the larger venues, & there’s nothing like staring out at thousands of people feeling what you’re doing!!

TI: One trait that is a must have for every real DJ?

DJ Quickmixx: Every real DJ has to have heart & truly love what you’re doing. You have to be willing to spend a lot of money and spend countless hours practicing. Then decide if you want to take it to the next level or just do it around the house as a hobby.

TI: If you could change one thing about the art of deejaying today it would be?

DJ Quickmixx: The technology that has come along is great, I use it. But with all of this technology, now there are thousands of people out there calling themselves DJ’s & taking gigs away from DJ’s that have earned that title & charging a lot less. You don’t have to be a DJ battle winner or a scratch master but you should learn the basics of beat matching, blending, etc. And earn the privilege of being called a DJ. Otherwise you’re not a DJ; you’re a human jukebox with no style or originality.
