What you want to be when you grow up? A rapper. A stripper. A game-show contestant. A motivational speaker. A gang member. A goon. An underwear model. Well if you are Jayceon Taylor, you can be all seven. Jayceon Taylor also known as The Game, has always had identity issues. This is why I wasn’t surprised by his sudden beef with Meek Mill. Well besides the fact that he has an album coming out. I mean let’s be real, a few weeks prior he was hand in hand with the police. He was trying to save the community. Now he wants to call Meek a rat for snitching, even though facts show otherwise. Oh Jayceon. (Still mad his mama just didn’t name him Jason.)

‘Tis the end of the year which means the season of lists is upon us. Check out which mainstream efforts won their way onto the Illuminati Roundtable ….

Death Row. Roc-A-Fella. Bad Boy. Murder Inc. No Limit. G-Unit. Just like Young Money, these labels too, have had their reign at the top. But just as Sir Isaac Newton once said, “What goes up, must come down.” And boy is it coming down. I’ve been watching Young Money for a few months now, because I started to notice the crumbling of their empire. Now if you’re a Hip-Hop head like me, then what’s happening in Young Money is nothing more than history repeating itself. Albums being pushed back, the workers becoming more famous than the boss, disgruntled artists, and so on. It’s been done. And a lot more entertainingly I might add. So lets explore Young Money and the repeating history.

“Pills N Potions” (iTunes)

The always vivacious Nicki Minaj is gearing up to release her third studio album The Pink Print much to the delight of barbs everywhere. She gave us the hood animated Nicki via her controversial single “Lookin A**” as well as with the follow up promo single “Yasss Bish.” However, she has recently toned it down a notch for what is shaping up to be the LP’s leading record “Pills N Potions.” The track was produced by Dr. Luke and Cirkut. They were also a part of the songwriting process along with Ester Dean. The tune is a slow piano driven number with elegant supporting musical components and an intoxicating vibe. Nicki plays up both her singing and rapping skills as she croons on the hook and brings her signature sound to the verses. The theme of the selection revolves around retaining love for those who may not necessarily be deserving of it. Or in a simpler term – forgiveness. Nicki nails the topic with lines like: “Hey yo, they could never make me hate you. Even though what you was doing wasn’t tasteful. Even though you out here looking so ungrateful. I’m a keep it moving. Be classy and graceful. I told ’em it’s no friends in the game. You ain’t learn that yet. All the bridges you came over, don’t burn that yet. N—as want respect. But n—as ain’t earn that yet.” Those words slay in the opening portion of the song. Overall, this is an amazing effort. Rumor has it that the track may be inspired by and or dedicated to Nicki’s former hairstylist. The two parted ways on a sour note some time ago.

This is a Public Service Announcement brought to you in part by the wonderful Pooh Bailey. My fellow rappers stop repping cities you’re not from. It’s very disrespectful to the people who actually are from there. You look like a straight poser. This mini rant came to me after peeping Tyga’s song, “Chiraq.” Excuse me as I tuck in my thug. I’m originally from Chicago (Southside!!!!) and that “Chiraq” record hit a nerve.
