Spotlight On The Women Of Hip-Hop: Lady Fusion

It’s seems of late that there are fewer and fewer old school Hip-Hop heads making a true difference in the game. Most have either moved on to other endeavors or sadly enough passed away before they could truly make a difference. Neither is the case for tonight’s subject, Lady Fusion. She began her life in the world of Hip-Hop in 1984, via being introduced by a cousin from NYC to the original pioneers: Grand Master Flash and the Furious Five, Melle Mel, Run DMC, and LL Cool J. From there, she started seeing the kids break dancing on the cardboard and all the DJs carrying around crates of vinyl to the house parties, including her own father. Let’s just say after that, with Lady Fusion it was love at first bass drop.

As all children do, she grew up and started running with a wider variety of people including the new age gangstas. This led to the discovery of a whole new range of West Coast rappers: 2Live Crew, DJ Quick, Too $hort, The Getto Boyz, NWA, and of course Snoop Doggy Dogg. Growing up in a Hip-Hop household, she saw the growth of a genre with basement parties, graffiti artists, b-boys, and of course ditch parties. Over the years, Lady Fusion has progressed into a wife, a business woman, and a mother to a whole new generation of Hip-Hop heads. A regular fixture at the East Side Milwaukee bar The Uptowner, she can be seen passing on the life lessons she learned to her Hip-Hop children. Those cast off Urban youth who have few choices in life are welcomed into the community and given their first steps on the road to a new life. By fusing the urban cultures of fashion, Hip-Hop, dance, and love, Lady Fusion is a shining example of what one person can do when their dreams becomes their reality. ~Biggz
