The one and only Signif is back with new music following her brief stint over in Europe. She teamed up with London producer Moteleola to create a track dubbed “The L Word (LikeLustLove).” The single sets the tone for the femcee’s upcoming album Friction. The production here is graceful. The clean base, rich full musical elements, snazzy rhythm, and serene vibe merge charmingly together. There is no hook included on this record. The verse moves so effortlessly though that one isn’t actually needed. The verse is quaint. Signif solicits a mellow flow, relishable wordplay, and consummate rhymes. She shows off a rarely heard softer side of herself as she sorts through her feelings for a special someone. An excerpt from her contemplation is as follows: “Then it went left. Probably cause I left. I shouldn’t hold my breath. I’m feeling like til’ … death do us part. We probably shouldn’t part over silly mistakes that I always make. Don’t call me selfish it was more like rebellious. Glad you ain’t turn out a failure like my rap career now that’s harsh. We can be the black David Beckham and Posh. If it don’t fall down. Either way build it back up from the ground. And try again my friend to the very end.” Those bars right there take the song out on an emotional candid note. Overall, this is a treasured first leak.
**My Two Cents: It’s always a joy to get new music from Signif. This time proved to be more of the same. The song was a short yet sweet way to get people excited for Friction. The beat was beautiful and the content was delectable. The theme was great too as well as very relatable. Friction is due out some time this Summer. So be on the look out for additional: leaks, videos, and more. -MinM
