There have been a lot of new artists on the site lately, but PHZ-Sicks (Physics) is definitely one of the more stand out ones. He is just 24 years of age and hails from Woodbridge, VA. He is a graduate of Drexel University and has been in the game since 2008. His career was launched with his debut mixtape, The Feature Presentation. The mixtape received rave reviews for being something different from what other indie artists were releasing. It has received over 3,000 downloads to date. PHZ-Sicks began to do shows nationwide and critics reported that he killed his shows and audiences loved him. He has an impressive show resume too, having opened up for acts like Wale and J. Cole. His next mixtape Less Than Zero opened even more doors for him. He began to receive a lot more radio play, made more music connections, and attracted more media attention. Currently, he is a 2011 DMV Best VA Male Rap Artist nominee and he just released a new project entitled The Laws of PHZ-Sicks which was sponsored by: Hip Hop Update, ANMLHSE, and Quintin Co. One of The Laws of PHZ-Sicks buzz tracks is a song called “Success/Failure.” The song features Detroit singer/rapper Young Scolla. And visuals for the single can be seen below.

This video was co-directed by PHZ-Sicks himself along with The SweatShop. The concept of the video plays on the plot from the movie (500) Days Of Summer. The concept was chosen to show a unique take on the ideas of success and failure. The video opens via a quick rewind through a few scenes. Next, PHZ-Sicks is shown getting dressed in two different shots. In one shot he is dressed in black and in the other shot he is dressed in red and white. From there, the screen is split into two sides. One side features PHZ-Sicks dressed in his black attire and is labled success. The other side features PHZ-Sicks dressed in his red/white attire and is labeled failure. The scenes that follow show events happening that relate to the two themes. Next, PHZ-Sicks can be seen rocking with Scolla while two girls are then featured in the split screen. One is fresh from graduation and the other appears to be struggling. The last major scene shows PHZ-Sicks giving an amped performance in some sort of venue. It’s a pretty packed house and the crowd seems to be very into the show. The video closes with more shots of PHZ-Sicks and Scolla doing their thing. And that is pretty much the piece in a nutshell.

**My Two Cents: I LOVED this song and video. I haven’t seen the movie (500) Days Of Summer but I think PHZ-Sicks did a great job with the concept of this project. He depicted the themes of success and failure in a different yet relateable way. And the video was really entertaining to watch. The video served it’s purpose well and it is highly suggested that readers take the time to view it.
