Yesterday (5/23), local Milwaukee venue 618 Live On Water made a huge announcement. The venue released the news that they were canceling an upcoming appearance by controversial Chicago rapper Chief Keef. He was supposed to take part in an event being thrown this Saturday (5/25) as part of the Memorial Day weekend festivities. Representatives from 618 held meetings earlier in the week after some concerns were voiced in regards to Keef’s reputation. The result of the meetings was the decision that Keef not be allowed to perform this weekend. Concert promoter Zo Enterprises was reluctant to accept Keef no longer being on the bill. The concerns that led to the decision revolved around the images Keef portrays in his music and videos.
He is seen and heard constantly immersed in an array of drugs, violence, and guns. Additionally, the young rapper has been in and out of jail since the beginning of the year for various charges such as: pointing a gun at a police officer, disorderly conduct, smoking marijuana, and more. On top of all of that he is a suspect in the murder of another young Chicago rapper, Lil JoJo. And there are rumors circulating that Keef is an active member of Chicago’s Black Disciples street gang. Not to mention he recently took to Twitter with violent and derogatory comments against Pop superstar Katy Perry because she voiced a not so favorable opinion about one of his songs. With Milwaukee being a city involved in one of the current Stop The Violence movements that have begun circulating in major troubled cities throughout the United States; Keef’s negative attributes just could not be overlooked. There has been no word from Keef or his camp in regards to the situation.
**My Two Cents: I am proud that the management team at 618 took a stance on this situation. I for one can’t stand Chief Keef or his music. So his absence is not much of a loss at all in my opinion. It sucks for anyone who may have purchased tickets but I am sure they will get their money back. Now if the Hip-Hop community could just take a stand against Keef and others like him, we might be able to weed out some of the garbage that is polluting our great art form. Just something to think about. -MinM

I am definitely not a Chief Keef fan. But if that’s the case, they should have about 85% of rappers perform now or in the near future. I bet if way said he’d perform there they would take it and blast it all over the web. Topics are all the same.
