Kevin Cool – “Adult Swim”

West Coast artist Kevin Cool (Divine Atoms) decided to release a single to celebrate his born day a little over a week ago. It’s coined “Adult Swim” and is produced by ShunGu with mixing by Key West. Additionally, it is slated to appear on his forthcoming debut project Failure To Launch.

The production here is quirky. The deep set bass, versatile background components, unique rhythm, and breezy down to earth vibe make for a flattering combination. The hook is adequate. The delivery showcases a little personality and the lyrics are super easy to remember. The verses are satisfactory. Kevin Cool calls upon a distinct flow, interesting wordplay, and favorable rhymes. He uses the almost two minute long track to give the listener a bit of his back-story along with expressing his potential. A handful of preferred lines are: “And I’m right back at it. New dealer on the block. Looking for some addicts. Get it while it’s free. It won’t stay that way. Funny n—as acting like b—hes. That’s Shawn and Marlon Wayans. (…) Always knew that I could do this. When my brothers introduced it I was down to pursue it. I’m referring to the music if you n—as that clueless.” One has to respect the craftiness within those words right there. As a whole, this is a decent way to set the tone for the upcoming collective.

**My Two Cents: I dig Kevin Cool. He has a fresh style about him and a noteworthy pen game. This offering is on point. The production is different and the content makes for a first-rate yet brief overview of what Mr. Cool is all about. Definitely looking to hear more from him in future as well as discover what else he can bring to the table. In the meantime when they have a little time to kill, readers should give this song a whirl for sure. -MinM
