“Nubian Girl” (listen/download)

July Eihth was one of the first artists ever featured on the site. And he’s always showing mad love. So when the opportunity came to leak some unheard music by the bi-coastal emcee, it was a must. The track is titled “Nubian Girl.” The production here is peaceful. It contains a soulful core, medium pace, light instrumentation, and a serene vibe. The hook is entertaining. The vocals are fair and the lyrics are charming. The verses are great. July brings a smooth easy going flow, authentic wordplay, and sophisticated rhymes. He does an eloquent job of paying homage to his ideal female. Peep it as he spits: “Earth what you do to me I can’t stop thinking. You stay on my mind like a New York fitted. Gifted young Black female and all smarts. No weave in her hair. She natural at heart. The type of lady you seen when Tribe came out. Take it back further on the Angie Davis route. Stupendous taste in food. Her mood all well.” Those lines are skillfully put together and very picturesque. In the end, this is a pristine record and one of July’s best works.

**My Two Cents: This was an awesome offering by July Eihth. The production is perfect and the content is stellar. It’s nice to have a positive track dedicated to the ladies every once in a while. Even though it’s not an official release, I think this could be transformed into a beautiful video. Might have to drop that idea off at Blaqlizt headquarters. In the mean time, local readers can catch July Eihth live at The Uptowner open mic tomorrow night (3/17). Entry is free. The mic is open to anybody from poets to rappers. The performance fee is only $1. Plus, the atmosphere amd services always receive high praise. So come out if you can. Kia Rap Princess and new Blaqlizt family member Cezar will also be hitting the stage. -MinM
