Joe K is an artist on the come up from right here in Milwaukee. Contrary to the background of most artists, he didn’t come into music and rapping until a later stage of his life. Some of his friends asked him to join in on a freestyle session just for fun and he gave it a shot. It turned out well and his interest was sparked from that point on. He spent a few months working to establish his style/sound using only his laptop and Adobe Audition. Eventually he got his sound down pact and released a few singles.  From there, he went on to solidify his identity and brand. The rest is pretty much history. At the moment, Joe K is working on putting together an EP. The upcoming project is titled, Against The Elements. His hopes is that the effort will showcase his diversity and give his supporters an idea of what he’s all about. He shared a couple of tracks with the site for that same purpose. The single “There For You” stood out the most. Continue reading to find out why.

The production here is pleasant. It contains: a gentle bass, a prominent piano element, a middling pace, and a heartfelt vibe. The hook is adequate. The delivery is earnest and the lyrics are touching. The verses are good. Joe K brings a spic & span flow, authentic wordplay, and revealing rhymes. He takes the listener through a case of young love, from it’s beginning to it’s end. Some noteworthy lines include: “Odds were stacked against us. But we took ’em in stride. Made it work for three years til I made you my bride. It took a year and a half just for you to decide that you were through with it. So we said our good byes. You packed up and moved on. Leaving me breathless. Severing ties, you left me bare and neglected.” Those bars present some very intense emotions and imagery. All in all, this song is a real gem.

**My Two Cents: I like what Joe K has to offer. He has a very clean style about him in both sound and approach, as he doesn’t use profanity in his rhymes. Also, I appreciate the fact that he is not afraid to cover all sorts of topics. He says he makes music based on what’s real for him and you can hear that in his work. Joe K has amazing talent. I was upon hearing his “Limitless” track he dropped some months ago. The dude brings more skill than anyone I know at his level. This guy is on his grind, he is harder than most emcee’s who claim to be real. He sticks true to what he says is real to him, and does not brag about doing it. He is the rap games true “Gentleman” and yet still, goes HARDER than anyone you listen to on the regular. Do not just take my word for it, look this cat up. He is well worth every second you spend looking him up. I wish him all the best. – Ace Philips.

Joe K is a force to recon with. When he first reached out to me I figured why not. So I invited him over to the LAB to see what he had to bring to the table. NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER!!!!
I played him a few bangers and WOW was I impressed. Everything from his delivery to his content was on point! I hope to work more with Joe K. in the future! I see BIG things in his future as long as he keeps the hunger and the drive he currently shows in his flow!!!

So now, I am putting in the time to hear “There for you” for the first time. Everything about this mix sits well for me. As does the passion and emotion Joe K always brings. He has the HEART of an emcee and exposes it with this drop. This is a lost art for the game today. He provokes feeling, and forces us into thought with lyrics, passion, and a driven pride he instills in this track. Joe K has a major fan in Ace Philips. When someone asks me to show them what they can do to improve, Joe K will be one of the first guys I throw at them as a reference from this day forward. – Ace Philips.
