Da Bizness (listen/download)

DJ Cell did a nice job of introducing readers to Milwaukee based rapper Bizal McLoud of Bird Flu Ent back in October. So much so that figured it seemed only right to follow up with a review of the Da BIZness mixtape for readers. The tape consists of a total of 14 tracks. It also includes guest appearances by a wide collective of artists such as: Metro, Awol, Inferno, and more. Discover what tracks The Illixer found most appealing after the break.

“Cooley High” F/ Lord Slug & J Lamo

The production here is flawless. The dark heavy base, trendy street elements, middling pace, and club ready vibe make for an ideal mixture. The hook is first-rate as well. The delivery is attention getting and the lyrics are memorable. The verses are gratifying. Bizal knocks out verse one, Lord Slug reps hard on verse two, and J Lamo brings things to a respectable close on verse three. All three artists utilize distinguishable flows, gritty wordplay, and estimable rhymes. They give the listener a vivid picture of exactly how they operate. A couple of noteworthy lines from Bizal are: “I’m sky high. I’m sci-fi. My wi-fi connected. You f–k with me and my guy, ya plugged in, connected. Them Dumdums ejected. Yo Dumdums respected. And if she get to get it, bet she gone twit pic it. This right here that real-o deal-o. From C-h-i to Mil-o. Fore I was f–king with them (…) I was packing pillows. More like a sack a pillow. Reload, stack the pillow. Then throw that blow out sale. Them leaves finally fall. I’m smoking, I’m dranking, them b—hes been with me.” Those bars provide a strong raw start to the track. Overall, this song is a banger.

“Good Cook”

The production here is enticing. The haunting foundation, intense secondary components, creeping pace, and serious vibe make for a favorable combination. The hook is decent. The delivery is solid and the lyrics are creative. The verses are good. Bizal dishes up his signature low raspy flow, skillful wordplay, and coarse rhymes. He provides rich details as he discusses his approach to putting in work via the metaphor of cooking. Observe as he spits: “Said she love that Caine. But she don’t like them Abels. And she love the game. But she don’t like them stables. B–ch pass me the base so I can zone out. Said I’m mixing the base. And I’m mixing the yay. I’m whipping it up. We shooting zones off. (…) Come out them pants girl and that shirt. Shaking ya a** a little bit won’t hurt. Put on them gloves when you touching that work.” Those bars right there have all the makings of a scene from a classic hood film. As a whole, this is another grand effort off of the tape.

“Something New”

The production here is likeable. The easy going infrastructure, light musical elements, upbeat tempo, and free spirited vibe culminate in a delightful blend. The hook is valid too. The delivery is desirable and the lyrics are fitting. The verses are winning. Bizal presents a conventional flow, up to par wordplay, and delectable rhymes. He does an admirable job of penning something that the ladies can feel. A handful of lines worth mentioning are: “I see you getting mad when she don’t answer your call. Lil mama tied up lil homie, that’s all. I don’t need to elaborate. Some might exaggerate. All you need to know is we ain’t playing damn patty-cake. I’m taking her on a brand new ride. You done f–ked up and finally let her outside. (…) She done found something new. And I done swooped through for the rescue. I’m hitting then passing to the next. She a dutch. Show her how to ride that clutch. She a fast learner, I ain’t gotta teach her much.” Very charismatic set of bars right there with just a hint of braggadocio worked in. All in all, this record is a gem and a site favorite.

**My Two Cents: Bizal McLoud made a killer debut with Da BIZness mixtape. The production is adequate, the guest appearances are suitable, and the content is satisfactory. He has his own signature sound and his music is perfect for the realm of street/gangsta style Hip-Hop. I dig the tape for sure and I think a lot of the readers will as well. All the buzz surrounding Bizal McLoud is properly placed and I can’t wait to see him do his thing live at the upcoming anniversary show. -MinM
