It has been roughly two years since The Illixer last featured anything on the music front from one of our fave emcees, Sparkus Garvey. However, he recently decided to end his musical hiatus and offer up an exclusive release for his return to the site. Of course, we were more than happy to oblige. He has formed a new faction that goes by the name of HIII-TRIBE and promises to be flooding the airwaves with lots of new tunes as 2016 draws closer to an end. First up is a track dubbed”Sacrifice.” It’s a collaboration with an artist by the name of Myles and it is produced by Felz. Both Myles and Felz are members of the aforementioned group.

What you want to be when you grow up? A rapper. A stripper. A game-show contestant. A motivational speaker. A gang member. A goon. An underwear model. Well if you are Jayceon Taylor, you can be all seven. Jayceon Taylor also known as The Game, has always had identity issues. This is why I wasn’t surprised by his sudden beef with Meek Mill. Well besides the fact that he has an album coming out. I mean let’s be real, a few weeks prior he was hand in hand with the police. He was trying to save the community. Now he wants to call Meek a rat for snitching, even though facts show otherwise. Oh Jayceon. (Still mad his mama just didn’t name him Jason.)

The Hip-Hop community was shook up in a major way this morning when the news of rapper Shawty Lo‘s death began to make waves all over the internet. The Southern super-star was killed in a car crash at around 2am this morning. He was leaving Blue Flame Lounge after spending the night out with some friends.

Veteran Hip-Hop mogul Jay Z recently teamed up with the infamous New York Times imprint to offer up a current perspective regarding the controversial war on drugs. Hov does his part by narrating a short film which features artwork from artist Molly Crabapple.

One of our favorite R&B/Soul singing jack of all trades, B~Free, released her sophomore album earlier this week. Ode 2 a Luv Affair comes about after a lot of hard work and a health scare that threatened to take the singer away from her art form. She came out on top following a year long battle and became even more determined than ever to share her musical gifts with the world. Her new LP chronicles the ups & downs of a relationship by exploring the themes of: vulnerability, passion, and compromise. B~Free utilizes her trademark 90’s style with hints of her modern day influences thrown into the mix. She produced, wrote, and performed on pretty much the entire collective. And she laces her flute playing throughout the LP for the first time ever. Ode 2 A Luv Affair is currently available through all digital retailers. The iTunes link can be found above.
